New Month, New Goals

Can you believe it’s already November!? I seriously cannot get my head around the fact that there are only TWO months left of 2010. Where did it go!?

For the past few weeks, I’ve been setting weekly goals and it has helped me keep on track. I haven’t set monthly goals in a while, so since it’s November 1, I want to put a few larger goals out there to see if it can help me stay focused for the month. I still want to set weekly goals so that the bigger ones seem more attainable, but here is what I hope to accomplish in November.

Exercise Goals:

  1. Strength Training – Strength train at least two times a week for the whole month. Strength training went to the back burner majorly when I was training for the half marathon, and I can tell I am losing strength and muscle definition because I haven’t been working towards it. I really want to get back into strength training regularly because its great for my metabolism and toning my arms, shoulders, and back.
  2. Select and sign up for a half marathon in 2011 and start thinking about a training plan so I can figure out when to start doing long runs.
  3. Continue to run at least once a week, either on the treadmill or outdoors if weather permits. I like to keep running even if I’m not training for something so I keep my stamina up.

Food Goals:

  1. Stick to a $50 a week budget for food – I am pretty good about budgeting for other things, but when it comes to food, I am VERY lenient with my budget because I feel like if I’m eating well, its OK to invest in it. While this is true, I think I can still eat well on $50 a week. I plan to use this money between the farmer’s market AND grocery shopping and still want to make almost all my breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at home. I can readjust the weekly budget if it seems too steep, but I want to try out $50 a week and see how that goes.
  2. Since there are lots of holidays coming up, try to eat out/do happy hour at most 2x a week, or even less if possible.

Personal Goals:

  1. Continue to go to church every Sunday. I looooove my church and just started going last month, and its something I’ve been looking forward to every week even if it means getting up a little earlier. I always leave feeling really good and want to keep that up.
  2. Read more and watch less TV. I watch A LOT of TV. Pretty much every show on HBO/Showtime is one I tune into regularly. This goal is kind of vague, but I always feel happier when I make some time to read rather than zoning out in front of the TV every night.

And there you have it! Seems like a hefty list, but do-able if I set my mind to it.

What about you? Do you tend to set monthly goals? If you do, do you find they help you stay accountable?

  1. I’m taking a note from you and creating my own goals for this month! 🙂 I’m excited to cheer you on for yours.

  2. The grocery budget would probably be a good thing for me to start considering. The holidays are upon us and I could stand to maybe cut back on some things (such as $6 nut butter) in order to give my family and friends a little something nicer… lol

    • haha priorities! My family does homemade Christmas rather than buying each other gifts – I still have to invest in supplies obviously but its a lot cheaper!

  4. Can I tell you, I really love your goal posts and they prompted me to start my own! So thanks for being so inspirational 🙂

  5. Yay for strength training! 😀

I set weekly and monthly goals. Weekly ones are easier because I can remember them, but sometimes I will get to the end of the month and realize there was one I had forgotten to do LOL!

  6. Jeez I see a BUNCH of bloggers posting goals for the new month. Makes me think I should be setting goals for myself too! I like the idea, so why not?

Hope you reach your goals! November will be a great month! 🙂

  7. I randomly set goals though I don’t always wait for a new month. I struggle with the strength training (I try to go to Body Pump once a week) and a food budget…eek. I’m very similar to you (good budget wise in everything else) but I spend a ton of money on food…though I don’t feel completely guilty.

I still like to run without an event I’m training for just because it feels good. Plus I can only handle the elliptical for so long!!

  8. Do the national half marathon with me in March!

  10. Watching less TV is a good one. It’s such a time suck!

  11. Woo this just reminded me to check on my October goals and set some new ones for November! Good luck this month. 🙂

  12. Similar goals here!

    1. More church is always good.
    2. Half Marathon sign-up. (done, april 30th!)
    3. Complete my Base Run 1 Training (4 weeks).

Here’s a link to my initial training for December in case anyone needs some ideas.
